Compare the whole part number before the price.
If two quotes both say 6205, you still need the manufacturer and the full designation. Letters and numbers after the basic bearing number can identify differences in shields, seals or internal clearance. Keep every suffix, slash and marking from the original part or approved equipment record.
Ask each supplier to put its exact proposed part number in writing. If it differs from the requested part, keep that offer separate until your maintenance team or qualified provider has approved the difference.
Same dimensions, different bearing details.
| SKF designation | Shields or seals | Radial internal clearance |
|---|---|---|
| 6205-2Z | Non-contact shields on both sides | CN: Normal |
| 6205-2Z/C3 | Non-contact shields on both sides | C3: greater than Normal |
| 6205-2RSH/C3 | Contact seals on both sides | C3: greater than Normal |
The first two entries differ in internal clearance. The last two both have C3 clearance, but one has shields and the other has contact seals. The table compares these listed properties; it is not a complete specification or an interchangeability decision.
C3 means greater radial internal clearance than Normal, not a higher quality grade. Use the clearance required for the equipment; do not choose it from price or dimensions alone.
These are SKF designations. If a supplier offers another brand, ask for that manufacturer’s full designation and supporting specifications. Do not assume similar suffixes establish a match across brands.
If you requested 6205-2Z/C3, here is what to ask.
| The quote says | Your next question |
|---|---|
| 6205 only | Which manufacturer and full designation will you supply? Please include all suffixes. |
| SKF 6205-2Z | Our request specifies C3 clearance. Can you quote that exact designation? Keep this CN offer listed separately. |
| SKF 6205-2RSH/C3 | This has contact seals instead of the requested shields. Can you quote 6205-2Z/C3? Any alternative needs our maintenance team’s approval. |
| SKF 6205-2Z/C3 | Please confirm the quantity, condition, delivered cost, availability, arrival date and warranty for this exact part. |
If the old bearing is hard to read, attach a photo and the equipment’s parts record. Leave missing characters unresolved. A guessed suffix can make a price comparison look complete when it is not.
Once the part matches, compare what will actually arrive.
- State the number of individual bearings needed and confirm whether the price is per bearing or per pack.
- Confirm condition and the exact manufacturer designation on the supplied product.
- Ask for freight and other charges to your delivery location, plus the quote expiry date.
- Get available quantity, dispatch timing and expected arrival in writing. Keep a delivery estimate separate from a commitment.
- Confirm warranty coverage, the party handling a claim and the return terms.
Copy this into your bearing quote request.
Please quote [quantity] individual bearings: [manufacturer and full designation, including every suffix]. Delivery is to [city/ZIP], needed by [date]. Attached are [photo / equipment parts record / current quote].
Please confirm the exact designation, dimensions, shields or seals, radial internal clearance and condition of the part you will supply. List any unreadable or missing details that prevent a match.
Keep alternatives separate from the requested part. For each alternative, provide its manufacturer designation, specifications and the differences from our request. Our maintenance team will approve suitability before ordering.
Please state price per bearing, pack quantity if applicable, freight and other charges, available quantity, expected dispatch and arrival dates, quote expiry, warranty and return terms.
